(Background and Purpose) At the border of an apartment complex, communication and exchange between the community in the complex and the surrounding community are smooth depending on the boundary and the planning of the boundary space, and sometimes a pattern of conflict appears. Various methods have been continuously devised to ensure the safety and comfort of residents while reducing conflicts with the local community in apartment complex planning. The ultimate goal of this study is to ensure that apartment complexes in the city can achieve social communication with the local community while securing safety through analysis of the importance of planning elements for apartment complex boundary space from the CPTED perspective and suggesting desirable planning directions for apartment complex boundary space planning. (Method) Planning elements, which are evaluation items, were derived through analysis of CPTED-related literature research and laws, local government guidelines and various design guidelines, and self-brainstorming, and the suitability was verified through expert surveys for each planning element, which is an evaluation item. The 16 verified planning elements were divided into four evaluation areas based on the basic CPTED principle, and they were further classified into two evaluation areas. Based on these classification criteria, the importance of each evaluation field, evaluation area, and evaluation item was calculated through the step-by-step AHP method. (Results) As a result of the importance analysis, in the case of the evaluation field, the open aspect was 66.2%, which was higher than the defensive aspect at 33.8%. Looking at the results of the importance analysis of the four evaluation areas classified based on the basic principles of CPTED, the 'natural monitoring' area was evaluated higher than the average with similar importance at 34.5% and the 'activation of activities (OB) area was evaluated higher than the average with similar importance at 31.7%. The 'area securing' area showed the importance of the average at 22.0%, and the 'access control' area was evaluated as low as 11.8%, which was the lowest. (Conclusions) It can be seen that the planning direction of CPTED, which is currently being applied in Korea, is considered more important from an urban design standpoint. This study is meaningful in that it quantitatively analyzes the relative importance of the planning elements of the apartment complex boundary space using AHP from the perspective of CPTED and diagnoses the current status to identify the planning direction and action tasks for the boundary space of the apartment complex. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that various CPTED planning elements for numerous boundaries and bounding spaces existing in the city, including the bounding space of apartment complexes, will be developed, and guidelines and related laws will be maintained.
