The aim of this study was to improve the working environment of welding workshop in technical high school. In order to achieve the purpose, the welding fume and heavy metal concentration exposed to students during the arc welding were analyzed and the effect of the existing local ventilation system was evaluated. Also, we measured the fume generation rates to welding current in three arc welding processes. The results were as follows; First, fume generation rates in shielded metal arc welding and carbon dioxide gas arc welding were very much. As the welding current rise, it was increased sharply. Second, fume generation rates in inert gas tungsten arc welding was essentially zero, therefore it was the best safety welding process in health to students. Third, fume concentration and hume reduction rates were below to the threshold limit values, it showed that local ventilation system at welding workshop was a good method for student health.
