Background: We aim to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of dental hygiene care by applying the dental hygiene process of care to subjects and comparing their oral hygiene status before and after the performance.
Methods: It was conducted for approximately 4 months from September to December 2023 at the Department of Dental Hygiene at E University, located in the metropolitan area. The purpose was explained to those who participated in the dental hygiene process of care and 42 people who consented were analyzed. The oral hygiene index of subjects who visited a total of three times at one-week intervals was compared before and after.
Results: As a result of comparing the differences in Plaque Index(PI), Calculus Index(CI), and Gingival Index(GI) before and after the dental hygiene process of care, the overall PI score increased from 56.43 to 86.26***. The GI score decreased froms 1.18 to 0.56***, CI 1.89 to 0.27*** and was statistically significant.
Conclusion: The dental hygiene process of care was effective. Subjects should be aware of the beneficial aspects of the dental hygiene process and provide opportunities to incremental oral health care programs through regular oral checkups. Accordingly, there will be a need to develop a customized oral care and education program system.
