The purpose of this study is to satisfy teachers and students in adolescent trends of school uniforms and to provide them with useful material with matching current fashions by analyzing the attitude of teachers and students toward uniform transformation in female highschool students and investigating factors influencing on behaviors of uniform transformation.
The subjects of this study are 30 students in Daegu and 30 teachers in Daegu and GyeongSangBuk-Do with the basic ways of investigating such as depth interview and survey. The results are as follows.
First, both teachers and students agree to wearing school uniforms. However, the reason for wearing school uniforms shows some difference between teachers and students. While teachers focus on school work, students put emphasis on peer pressure in the reason for wearing uniforms.
Second, although both teachers and students showed high satisfaction in school uniforms, students' feeling of satisfaction is higher than teacher's
Third, there is some big difference between negative attitude of teachers and affirmative attitude of students as a result of analysis of teachers' and students' attitude toward uniform transformation
Fourth, there is also some difference between students' uniform transformation and teachers' cognitive degree toward uniform transformation in that the average of teachers' cognitive degree is 16.47% and students' actual transformation degree is 80%.
Fifth, the study shows most students have experience of uniform transformation as a result of depth interview about actual condition of uniform transformation. Whereas students usually wear the jacket with its width and length shortened, they tend to lengthen skirt and unstitch pleat of skirt.
Sixth, there are many reasons for uniform transformation as a result of depth interview with students. Transformation for satisfying aesthetic desire tops the list, followed by transformation for matching, transformation for peer pressure.
Seventh, the study shows more than half a high schools have no policy toward regulation of uniform transformation. Although most teachers answer that they exercise control over uniform transformation, they have difficulty in imposing strict control. So most teachers usually tend to give a caution about uniform transformation.
In conclusion, every school needs to make various efforts to satisfy teachers, students and parents by considering and using students' opinion in order to choose the better school uniforms.
