In recent years, the demand for medical care in Korea has been rapidly increasing due to the improvement of the medical level of the people, changes in living standards and living patterns, aging of the population and increasing chronic diseases. In addition, the needs of the people who are medical beneficiaries are changing to a high-quality medical center with high quality. In this respect, nurses are the largest group of professionals in hospitals, and improving the quality of nurses' services is an essential factor in improving the efficiency and competitiveness of hospitals. In order to provide high-quality services, it is important to maintain and secure sufficient nursing manpower, however the turnover rate of nurses is gradually increasing.
In order to solve the problem of supply and demand of nursing personnel, the government is continuously increasing the number of nursing colleges, but the problem of nursing personnel is still getting worse due to the high turnover rate. Due to the high turnover rate, there is a shortage of nursing personnel occurs, which increases the burden of work for other nursing personnel, resulting in dissatisfaction with the job, and the vicious cycle of increasing the intention to turnover again is repeated. Since it is not possible to solve the high turnover rate of nurses simply through an increase in the number of registered nurses or an increase in the number of admitted nurses at nursing college, a practical and fundamental approach is needed.
Among the many factors that affect nurses' turnover intention, there are previous studies that show that the intention to turnover increases due to irregular three-shift work in the nursing work environment, and also affects health problems and job satisfaction due to shift work. Therefore, this study aims to find out whether three-shift work has a negative effect on turnover intention, as in previous studies.
