초기불교의 믿음[信] · 선정[禪]의 의미와 관계성 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 믿음과 선정의 의미와 단계적 구분의 관계에 대해 다룬다. 초기불교경전에 믿음의 의미와 구분은 다양하 고 여러 가지로 구분되어 있다. 믿음은 삼보를 믿게 하게 고통을 제거하고 고통에서 해탈하도록 돕는다. 초기불교에 수많은 수행법이 있다. 믿음과 선정의 관계도 사람의 근기와 이해차이 때문에 다양하다. 초기불교의 믿음은 세 단계로 구분할 수 있다. 삼보에 대한 단순한 믿음으로신자가 되거나 출가 이전에 나타난다. 두 번째는 삼보에 대한 절대적 믿음이나불법승계에 대한 절대적 믿음으로 不壞淨이라고 한다. 세 번째는 수행요소 로서믿음으로 삼실칠조도품의 오근이나 오력과 信隨念, 신해탈이 있다. 초기불교의 선정은 사선팔정 그리고 구차제정 등 다양하다. 선정은 성취, 지멸, 수행요소, 탄생, 삼계, 믿음수행여부 등에 따라 단계적으로 구별할 수 있다. 이와 같은 다양한 믿음과 선정단계의 구분과 그 관련성을 살펴보았는데 종합 적으로 말하면 믿음은 선정과 깊은 관련이 있었다. 믿음과 선정은 수많은 초기불교의 수행 가운데 한 방법이며, 사 람의 기질에 따라 차별된 수행의 길로 발전하며, 차제적 관계가 있고, 해탈 열반, 아라한의 길로 안내하며 수행주제 로삼을 수 있고, 서로 상호 관련되어 있고, 선정 수행이 믿음을 전제로 하지 않는내용도 엿볼 수 있다. 종합하면, 초기불교에서의 믿음과 선정은 깨달음으로 가는 중요한 요소이며 다양한 단계로 구분되며 서로 깊은 관 련성이 있다. 병에 따라 처방이 다르듯 믿음과선정도 그 고통을 제거하고 해탈을 구하는 하나의 방법으로 이해할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This Paper deals with the meaning and the gradual division of the Belief andBuddhist Seon Meditation, also both Relation. My point will be that themeaning and Division of the Belief in early Buddhist Canons are various anddivided. The Belief causes us to believe in Three Refuges, get rid of pain and beemancipated from sufferings. There are lots of methods of Buddhist Practicesin early Buddhist Canons. The Relation between Belief and Buddhist SeonMeditation is also various because of differences of human's ability andunderstanding. The Belief could be divided into three parts, namely the Belief as the Refugeand Believing in Buddha etc., the Belief as a absolute and unbreakable thingin Three Treasures namely Buddha, Dhamma, Saṅgha and also in BuddhistDiscipline and the Belief as a element of the buddhist Practice. The Buddhist Seon Meditation divided into various practical steps accordingto achievement, destruction and element of Buddhist Seon Practice, rebirthand three worlds and the relation of the Belief. It is certain that the Belief has three different steps and highly relates to theSeon Meditation. Both are the element of leading to the Emancipation andNibbana. Without Belief a practicer could not develop his good mind andattain the Emancipation. Our conclusion could be stated thus: It is very important that we understandthe concept of the belief as various steps in the Buddhist Practice and thebelief is related with the Buddhist Seon Medition to lead to getting rid ofsuffering and attaining the Emancipation.
