Madame Jeme and Madame Jiso are known as the names of the wife of Kim Yusin, who made great contribution to Silla’s unification of the Korean Peninsula. It can be clearly confirmed in Samguksagi that the latter, the third daughter of King Taejong Muyeol got married to Kim in 655. But at the present day, we have no document telling definitely that the former seen in Samgukyusa was Kim’s wife. So there has been some dispute on her identity.
In this paper, I tried to examine the historical material related to the two women and reached such conclusions as follows.
1) It is true that Madame Jeme was Kim’s wife, as has been thought.
2) But Madame Jeme and Madame Jiso were not the very same woman. In fact, the former had been Kim’s first wife and after her death Kim was married again to the latter.
