공간적 관점과 구조적 관점에서의 거주지 분리 측정 = Spatial and Structural Approaches to the Measurement of Residential Segregation

Residential segregation is a social phenomenon that decreases the chance of interactions between different population groups. In this paper, we argue that residential segregation is primarily caused by two factors, namely spatial factor and structural factors. The spatial factor refers to the degree of differences in geographic arrangements of population groups, and it increases when a particular group (or groups) is residentially clustered in the study area. Structural factors can be divided into two sub-factors: differences in population sizes between the groups and the absence of population diversity, such as ethnic diversity. As the differences in population sizes increase and the population diversity decreases, the overall level of residential segregation is likely to increase due to the structural factors. To understand the causes and consequences of any given residential segregation, it is important to evaluate these factors separately and accurately. In this paper, we introduce a set of new indices that can measure spatial and structural aspects of residential segregation and demonstrate its strengths and advantages over the existing methods by applying it to the Seoul population data.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

계층 간 상호접촉 기회의 감소와 단절을 의미하는 거주지 분리는 일차적으로 공간적 요인과 구조적 요인에 의해 발생하게 된다. 공간적 요인이란 계층별 거주지의 분포 양상에서 나타나는 차이를 말하는 것으로, 특정한 계층이 도시 내의한정된 지역에서 군집을 이룰 때 증가한다. 거주지 분리의 구조적 요인은 계층 간 규모의 차이, 계층 다양성의 부재 등과같은 인구구성적 측면의 특성을 의미하며, 계층 간 규모의 차이가 커질수록, 그리고 계층 다양성이 감소할수록 커지게 된다.
본 연구에서는 이들 요인에 의해 발생하는 거주지 분리를 각각 거주지 분리의 공간적 측면과 구조적 측면, 또는 공간적 분리와 구조적 분리로 정의하고, 각각을 독립적으로 측정할 수 있는 새로운 지표를 소개하고자 한다. 새롭게 제시된 지표의특징과 장점을 보다 자세히 살펴보기 위해, 본 연구에서는 지난 2010년 실시된 서울시 가구통행실태조사 데이터에 이를적용하고 그 결과를 기존의 측도와 비교하여 설명할 것이다.
