쟁점에서 망각으로 - 냉전 후부터 현대에 이르는 일본사회의 전후민주주의를 둘러싼 담론에 관한 시론 - = From Controversy to Oblivion : A study of Postwar Democracy Discourses in Japanese Society from the Cold War to the Present

This paper analyzes the discourse on "postwar democracy" in Japanese society. "Postwar democracy" has changed with regime change since the 1990s and with changes in world affairs. In particular, This paper will identify how the discourse has changed with regime changes and changes in world affairs since the 1990s. "Postwar democracy" emerged in the mid-1950s and became entrenched in the discourse due to three factors: pacifism, direct democracy orientation, and egalitarianism. Since the 1970s, the influence of "postwar democracy" has waned as Japanese society has changed. In the 1990s, the pacifist foreign policy of the Socialist Party of Japan became an issue, and "postwar democracy" came to be criticized as a "masochistic view of history. Then, in the 2000s, under the pretext of security issues, the decision was made to allow the exercise of the right of collective self-defense, and the "Peace and Security Legislation" came into effect. In the course of Japanese society, "postwar democracy" seems to have been forgotten. However, the three elements of "postwar democracy" are still being explored in people's lives and questioned in the experiences of new generations.
