This paper believes that Yeonam's Silhak spirit has the characteristic of planning the direction of social change and reform in the late Joseon Dynasty. And we would like to examine its characteristics through the spirit of Silhak of his 'Utilitarian Welfare' in the context of consilience, a major academic method in the 21st century.
This paper will examine the characteristics of Yeonam's Silhak spirit in two aspects: internal and external factors. The internal factors are discussed in the context that the theoretical background and factors that could have resulted in his thought of practical science originated from his free open mind. External factors include the desexualistic academic trend and changes in world view, the cracking of strict class order in Joseon, the claim of commercial development and land reform, the change of economic system, the introduction of modern science and technology in the West and the advanced culture of Qing. This external factor is actually the main cause and the main cause of the thought of the Silhak spirit of Yeonam Park Ji-Won, and the main point is the Silhak spirit of the use of Utilitarian Welfare.
So, this article focuses on these external factors and aims to clarify the meaning of Yeonam Park Ji-Won's Utilitarian Welfare practice and world view. And in conclusion, it is revealed by comparison that the correct establishment of virtue that Yeonam emphasizes is related to the cultivation of virtue, and that correct establishment of virtue is cultivated by the spirit of Silhak of Utilitarian Welfare.
