The study was performed to find and compare the characteristic of obesity indices on serum lipid profiles among subjects. The subjects were 407 of healthy adult males aged 26 through 59 years. The questionaire contained the items on demographic and anthropometric information, enviromental factors like alcohol drinking, smoking, berverage consumption, exercise, food and nutritient intakes. Serum lipid level(total cholesterol and triglyceride) of subject were analyzed and the criteria for grouping the subjects for the study. Subjects were classified as TC group showing high serum cholesterol level, TG group showing high serum triglyceride levels, TC·TG group showing high serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels and normal group. The results abtained were summarized as follows: The average age of the subjects was 42.0 years old. The majority of subject was above high school graduates and they were mostly engaged in office works. Average income of 2,000,000 to 2,490,000 won. Most of subjects are meals regularly. Most of subjects drink alcohols l to 3 times per week(35.l %) and subjects drinking alcohols more than 4 times per week were also 15.8% of all. Large portions of subjects were rather smoking, exercise regularly. The average levels of serum triglyoeride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol; and LDL-cho-lesterol for the subjects were 182.6 mg/dl, 197.6mg/d1, 48.61mg/d1, 113.3mg/d1, respectively. In comparison of blood lipid profiles to normal group, TC group was high in both total choiestwo1 and LDL-cholesterol, TG group was high in triglyceride and low in HDL-cholesterol, TC·TG group was high in triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and low in HDL-cholesterol. Average height, weight, BMI, WHR, and PMW were I71.0cm, 69.3kg, 23.7, 0.93 and 108.5 respectively. body weight of TG group was significantly higher than normal group. BMI of TG and TC·TG groups were significantly higher than normal group. Average systolic and diastolic Mood pressure for all subjects were 120.2 mmHg, 78.7 mmHg respectively. There was no significant difference in systolic blood pressure among group, but diastolic blood pressure was significantly higher in TC·TG group than normal group. The occurrence rate of hypertension was high in normal group and also much higher in other groups than in normal group. In factor analysis, smoking significantly affected serum lipid levels in subject and so did BMI, WHR, PIBW. For TC·TG groups, BMI, WHR, serum LDL-cholesterol was higher, and HDL-cholesterol was lower than other groups, indicating that TC·TG group had the most undesirable blood lipid profiles. Therefore, it might be necessary to manage BMI and WHR for prevent the hyperlipidemia and obesity in Korean adult males.
