The poetry in Baroque literature had its own characteristic and expressive ways different from both the Renaissance and classicism. Baroque literature is, largely, the literature of the seventeenth century, and may be less known than Baroque architecture, painting, sculpture, and music. But we should recognize that Baroque literature had rich and varied expressions in poetry, drama, and prose. Most of the poems written in Baroque period were about religious elements or Christianity, its expression shows a variety of metaphors, in which each poet throughout Europe enjoyed writing his own stylish devices. Actually the word 'baroque' means originally contorted idea or an obstacle in schematic logic, which reminds us of the origin of 'romanticism'. The two origins take on the similar idea that both are showing something different from the canon, or the real. In that sense Baroque literature and the poetry in Romanticism lead poets and readers to the new and strange place, where readers are facing new challenges whether to accept the trends.
Compared to Classicism, Romanticism shows quite a different characteristics in its dealing with poetic elements. In Romanticism, emotion and individual approach are more favored, and queer and particular thoughts are welcomed. In Baroque literature, many different and new, and fresh to some, words are borrowed or coined to express the poets feelings.
