The modernization of Korean style painting started from abstract expressions and object adoption that were different from the traditional techniques which only used paper, brushes and ink. Especially works by Ahn, Sang-cheol, Kim, Ki-chang, Park, Nae-hyun, Lee, Eung-no, Ahn, Dong-sook, and Kwon, Young-woo which show their attempts to reinterpret Western expression techniques with a modern sense in Korean style painting. Among these artists, Ahn, Sang-cheol, Lee, Eung-no, Ahn, Dong-sook, and Kwon, Young-woo applied experimental techniques to their objects. Ahn, Sang-cheol used objects from nature, like stones, Ahn, Dong-sook placed bamboo mats onto trees and both Lee, Eung-no and Kwon, Young-woo showed objects made of Korean paper. These attempts had significant meanings ofThe expansion of expression',A change from two-dimension to three-dimension', andAcquisition of modern art sense'. The experimental spirit of this period influenced contemporary Korean style painting and its advancement a great deal in later years. A Study of Experimental Objects in 1960s Korean Style Painting therefore, has a very important meaning when writing the history of contemporary Korean style painting. This study examines how experimental objects appeared, what the works by artists in main stream were like and how influential their works were in the 1960s when modern Korean style painting was forming.
