Based on the correlation of Sijo recitation and Korean proficiency, the experience examples of reciting about 300 Sijo in one year and a half from April, 2012 to September 2013 were described. The influence of Sijo recitation on the improvement of Korean proficiency was analyzed and the instruction measure on Sijo recitation education was suggested as well.
This research methods focused on the case method and narrative method, along with the questionnaire survey method. The notes, diaries, reports, report card of Test of Proficiency in Korean, recording files, narrative description of the researchers, and the questionnaire used in the process of Sijo recitation were collected and applied. Based on these materials, other achievement experiences which were different from the inchoate simple memorization, comprehension memorization, and the process of progress of proficient recitation phase of the Sijo recitation were described in details. Moreover, to improve the objectivity and credibility reliability, the records of Test of Proficiency in Korean, the results of the question investigation, the changes of the researchers' psychological attitude to Korean during the diagnosis process to the Korean proficiency were described and analyzed with the narrative form. Then, the increasing degree of the Korean proficiency (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, culture, literature, listening, reading, speaking, writing) was diagnosed based on the phases of Sijo recitation. The increased features of Korean proficiency at each stage were also analyzed for the progress of next stage.
According to the progress and results, the Sijo recitation education, as the integrated educational method, can be applied helpfully for improving the Korean proficiency. This research objective was to contribute the Korean language, culture, and literature. The education subjects with high level of Korean proficiency were selected and the standard of selection of Sijo arts and subject works were also proposed. The instruction method of the Sijo recitation was divided into six stages which were ‘introduction - before Sijo recitation- Sijo recitation - after Sijo recitation - sort out’ Furthermore, the evaluation items and the anticipation were suggested for the future developments of the educational method of the Sijo recitation.
