지정(止亭) 남곤(南袞)의 한문 산문 소고(小考) - 산재(散在)된 현전 작품들을 중심으로 - = A Study on the Chinese Prose of Jijeong(止亭) Nam, gon(南袞) - Focusing on the Scattered Works -

This thesis is a study of prose works by Jijeong(止亭) Nam, gon(南袞, 1471-1527). The works studied in this paper are Haejuhyanggyojungsugi(海州鄕校重修記) and Yubaeksajeonggi(遊白沙汀記). The former work is a record of public buildings that described the repair of Confucian school, and the latter work is a travelogue of Baeksajeong(白沙汀) in Hwanghaedo(黃海道). This is the result of considering the evaluations of Yu, manju(兪晩柱) and Song, in(宋寅).` Haejuhyanggyojungsugi(海州鄕校重修記)'purpose is clear because it is a document posted on a public building called Confucian school. Since the main reader class is Confucian scholars, it is to persuade and induce these people to give more effort for learning and writing. He spreads and persuades the logic of the emergence of talented people and the nature of classical scholars, and also conveys his viewpoint of learning and literature and requests future talented people. On the other hand, considering Yu, manju(兪晩柱)'s evaluation, Confucian scholars are naturally persuaded by weaving various meanings and arguments.
Yubaeksajeonggi(遊白沙汀記) is a work that, unlike general sansuyugi(山水遊記), focuses considerably on discussion rather than article and description. However, the content of discussion is multilayered and complex. If the reality is correct, the name and the work will naturally be left to posterity, so we should pursue only the reality, not the name and the work. However, in order to request future readers to live a life that pursues reality, ironically, it is only possible through the work. In the end, he found a kind of compromise in pursuit of 'the reality' of the ideal human being by leaving 'the work' called sansuyugi(山水遊記).
