『朝鮮文化史論』 수록 호소이 하지메(細井肇) <구운몽>의 번역 양상 = Translation of < Ku-un-mong > in Hosoi Hajime's Joseon 『Cultural History』

Hosoi Hajime translated several Korean literature and works, including < Ku-un-mong >. His translation is always based on a certain intention, and most of them were identified through the aspect of translation. In the case of the translation of < Ku-un-mong > included in the 『Joseon Cultural History』, in addition to the translation, what he chose and excluded in the process of abbreviated translation should be considered first. His translation, which was very concisely abbreviated, had the logic of choice and exclusion working, and there is a view of Hosoi Hajime looking at < Ku-un-mong >. Hosoi Hajime seems to have focused on the problem of realistic love between men and women rather than the profound meaning of < Ku-un-mong >. This may be the result of the condition that abbreviations and translations must be performed at the same time, or on the other hand, it may be the appearance of Joseon that Hosoi Hajime wanted to see. Meanwhile, 『Joseon Cultural History』 contains several classical novels. It is impressive that many classical novels are included in books made to understand the cultural history of Joseon. In the future, we would like to analyze the translation of classical novels contained in this book to understand what Joseon's classical novels he recognized at the time were like.
