12신조와 칼빈의 성찬론

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 한국장로교회의 12신조에 나타난 성찬론을 칼빈의 성찬론과 비교하여 그 성격을 규명하였다. 12신조의 성찬론은 칼빈의 성찬론 내용을 담고있기는 하지만 강조점의 차이와 미흡한 점이 있으므로, 엄격하거나 자유로운 칼빈주의 신앙고백이라기보다는 온건한 칼빈주의 신앙고백이라 할 수 있다.
칼빈의 성찬론은 그리스도의 영적 임재설, 그리스도와의 연합과 교제, 신자들의 연합과 교제 등으로 분석할 수 있는데, 12신조의 성찬 개념들이 다 포함되어 있다. 그러나 12신조의 성찬론을 칼빈의 성찬론에 비추어 본다면,‘ 그리스도와의 연합’과‘신자들의 연합’개념이 없다. 또한 칼빈의 성찬론에서는 12신조에서 찾아볼 수 없는 다양한 비유를 통하여 성찬에 대한 이해를 도와준다.즉 성령을‘연결의 줄’과‘통로’로, 성찬을‘사랑의 줄’과‘거울’로, 신자들의 연합을‘곡식알들’로 비유하고, 물질적인 것과 영적인 것을 유비관계로 보아 성찬물을 영적 양식(양육)이라고 한다.‘ 그리스도와의 연합과 교제’에서‘신자들의 연합과 교제’로 이어지는 칼빈의 성찬론에서는 화해 모티브를 발견할수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article compares the character of the doctrine of the Eucharist in the 12 Articles of the Korean Presbyterian Church to Calvin’s doctrine of the Eucharist. I argue that the doctrine of the Eucharist in the 12 Articles is a
moderate Calvinistic confession of faith, neither strict nor liberal, and that,although it contains the contents of Calvin’s doctrine of the Eucharist, it has different emphases and leaves something to be desired. Calvin's doctrine of the
Eucharist, which contains all the notions of the 12 Articles, covers themes of the spiritual presence of Christ, the union and communication with Christ, and the union and communication of participants. However, the 12 Articles do not contain either the notions of “union with Christ” or “union of believers,” which we find in Calvin’s thought. Calvin's doctrine of the Eucharist helps us to understand what the Lord's last supper means through figurative use of
language, the Spirit as a “connecting bond” and a “channel,” the Eucharist as a “bond of love” and a “mirror,” and the believers’ union as “grains.” Drawing an analogy between material and spiritual things, Calvin also said that the
bread and wine give us spiritual nourishment. In summary, the theme of reconciliation, involving “union and communion with Christ” and “the union and communion of believers,” is an important feature of Calvin’s doctrine of
the Eucharist.
