In this study, we prepared two enzymatic extracts by using trypsin and pepsin from Hermetia Illucens (THI and PHI), and evaluated their effects on photodamages in ultraviolet B (UVB)-irradiated human keratinocytes. The result showed PHI led to the higher extraction yield than THI, whereas the protein content of PHI was lower. Also both THI and PHI decreased the generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) without the cytotoxicity at the used all concentrations in UVB-irradiated human keratinocytes. In particular, THI reduced the formation of apoptosis and the sub-G1 DNA content. In conclusion, we demonstrate that Hermetia Illucens enzymatic extracts suppress photo damages by inhibiting the oxidative stress of UVB-irradiated human keratinocytes.
