As the general and detailed theories of <East Asian History> based on 2007 revised curriculum were revised at the same time, which makes it easier to add content, ‘extortion of history’ by China and Japan was added as a major part of the subject.
As a development institution of <East Asian History>, Northeast Asian History Foundation was designated, seemingly due to its purpose of foundation, while researchers were managed by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. Even though the curriculum of <East Asian History> was developed during a relatively short period, it was done by an overwhelmingly large number of professionals under the extensive support of Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. The researchers had curriculum development experience, participated in developing History for Future, a public history textbook, or were directly or indirectly involved in the curriculum of The Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation for years. Such selection of professionals couldn"t be any better for creating a solid curriculum.
<East Asian History> was created with various factors including the government policy, the media, efforts of private organizations, and the voice of history department, despite the disturbing situation of ‘distortion of history.’ In addition, although <East Asian History> curriculum still has limitations, I think it was created through significant brainstorming and awareness of problems of the researchers during a short period of time, although there are no books on general history. Since it was an innovative attempt that has never been made by other countries around Korea, the researchers were under a lot more pressure. Nevertheless, the views on ‘East Asian history as a regional history’, contemplating the study load of learners, and the new attempt of chronological theme-based organization should be highly regarded.
