The purpose of this study was revealing the potential of students with severe and multiple disabilities(SMD) hidden by medical discourse and forming a alternative discourse called ‘A body that can do it’. To this end, a critical action research as a research method was conducted to directly face the political, economic, and social influences surrounding on-the-ground problems, and to deconstruct and reorganize it through practical actions. Research team and a teaching-learning community(TLC) implemented a sports activity called Motor Activity Training Program(MATP) for students with SMD. 8 members of the TLC, 4 fellow teachers and 6 assistant staffs, a total of 18 participants were selected. In-depth interviews, focus group interviews, and participant observation were conducted for data collection, and research participants’ reflection diaries, regular meetings of the TLC, and MATP operating plans and result report documents were also collected. After all the research data was transcribed, it was analyzed using the 6-step thematic analysis process of idiographics among thematic analysis. The results of the study were divided into the characteristics of each school’s MATP operation and the process of changing the research participants’ perceptions of educational activities with SMD. The categorical words of the cognitive change process were ‘Unsolved problem: teaching-learning activity(TLA) with SMD like maze’, ‘Unconditional positive applause: Intentional others-centered TLA’, and ‘The beginning of deconstruction: Humanistic educational practice’. The implementation of others-centered educational activities for students with SMD had a number of limitations in reality. Nevertheless, in the process of implementing the MATP, the research participants gave visibility to changes in students through the transition of power within the class, and dispersed the center of TLA while establishing goals that individual students could perform rather than the overall learning goals. The participants in MATP recognized the body of the student with SMD as ‘can do it’, and showed the possibility of forming an alternative discourse about persons with SMD. At every moment, the research participants constantly repeated execution and reflection. Others-centered educational practice was not only an educational act for students with SMD, but also changed the teachers themselves, leading encounters with genuine subjects. A person who experiences SMD can be reborn as a ‘can-do subject’ through practice to remove social barriers. This benefits not only people experiencing disability but also the doer. Thorough practical actions to reflect on and resolve social inequality, citizens of modern society will establish a relationship with the true subjectivity and the subject with an enhanced soul.
