일러스트레이션의 비주얼 메타포 적용 여부에 따른 수용자 반응 연구 = A Study on the Consumer's Reaction according to the Visual Metaphor in Illustration

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 메타포 적용 여부에 따른 일러스트레이션의 상징체계가 수용자에게 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 비교하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 우선 이론적 배경을 통해 메타포의 개념과 메타포의 기호학적 범위 및 기호의 상징체계를 정리하였으며, 기호의 상징체계에 따른 일러스트레이션 사례는 교과서에 수록·연계된 세계 문학 도서의 책 표지 일러스트레이션을 중심으로 선정하였다. 선정된 사례는 언어학자 에드워드 사피어(Edward Sapir)의 이론에 따라 메타포가 적용되지 않은 외연적 일러스트레이션은 준거적 상징으로, 메타포가 적용된 내연적 일러스트레이션은 함축적 상징으로 분류하였다. 최종적으로 일러스트레이션의 메타포 적용 여부에 따른 수용자의 반응을 분석하기 위하여 20~60대의 일반인 남녀 140명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 시행하였다. 설문은 일러스트레이션에 대한 수용자의 인지적 반응을 살펴보기 위해 이해도, 적합도, 설득 효과의 항목을 평가하고 수용자의 정서적 반응을 살펴보기 위해 호감도, 주목도, 흥미도의 항목을 평가하였으며 준거적 상징에 따른 이미지를 A로, 함축적 상징에 따른 이미지를 B로 분류하고 설문 문항에 따라 해당되는 이미지를 선택하는 방식으로 진행하였다. 조사 결과에 따르면, 수용자의 정서적 반응에 있어 함축적 상징에 따른 모든 일러스트레이션 사례가 준거적 상징에 따른 일러스트레이션보다 높은 선호도를 나타낸 것을 알 수 있었다. 수용자의 인지적 반응의 경우, 일러스트레이션 사례에 따라 일관되지 않은 결괏값을 나타냈다. 즉, 메타포가 적용된 함축적 상징에 따른 일러스트레이션은 다량의 의미를 간접적으로 전달함으로써 수용자에게 흥미롭게 다가갈 수 있으나 주제와 연계되지 않는 상징을 적용할 경우 의미가 모호하게 전달될 수 있다는 문제점이 나타난다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This work aims to compare how the symbolic system of illustration affects the acceptor depending on whether the metaphor is applied. Illustration cases based on the symbolic system of symbols were selected mainly on illustrations of books cover of world literature books included in textbooks. In the selected case, through Edward Sapir's theory, external illustrations without metaphors were categorized as referential symbolism, and internal illustrations with metaphors were categorized as condensation symbolism to examine the characteristics of each symbolic system. Finally, a survey was conducted on 140 men and women in their 20s and 60s to analyze the response of inmates to the application of the metaphor of illustration, and a total of 127 responses were collected, except for 13 insincere responses. The survey evaluates items of comprehension, fitness, and persuasion effects to examine the acceptor's cognitive response to illustrations, to examine the emotional response of the inmates, we evaluated items of likeability, attention, and interest. The survey was conducted by classifying the image according to the referential symbolism as A and the image according to the condensation symbolism as B to select the corresponding image according to the questionnaire. The investigation revealed that all illustration cases under condensation symbolism showed higher preference than illustrations under referential symbolism, but for the perceptual response of the acceptor, inconsistent results were presented according to illustration cases. The problem is that illustrations based on condensation symbolism applied with metaphors can approach the acceptor interestingly by indirectly conveying a large amount of meaning, but can be vaguely conveyed when applying symbols that are not linked to the topic.
