저주와 복과 약속의 삼중 대상인 `그리스도`와 갈라디아교회 = 갈 3:10-14의 구조분석과 사회적 정황을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 바울이 갈 3:10-14 단락에서 ‘저주’와 ‘복’과 ‘약속’의 삼중 대상으로 그리스도를 언급함으로 갈라디아 교회 내의 어떠한 반응을 기대하였는지를 고찰하려는 데 있다. 즉 본 논문은 이러한 삼중 대상인 ‘그리스도’를 중심으로 갈 3:10-14에 반영된 구조를 전후 문맥 속에서 살펴보려는 것이다. 바울은 저주의 대상과 복의 대상 그리고 약속의 대상을 각기 구분하여 제시한다. 그러나 여기서 독특한 점은 그리스도가 세 부류의 대상에 모두 포함되어 저주의 상징뿐만 아니라 아브라함의 복의 상징이며, 성령의 약속의 상징으로서 기능한다는 점이다. 여기서 바울이 의도한 것은 단지 저주의 대상과 복의 대상 그리고 약속의 대상을 구분 짓기보다는, 오히려 그리스도를 통하여 세 대상을 하나로 연결시키려는 의도가 있었던 것으로 보인다. 더 나아가 바울이 이 단락 내에서 저주를 ‘그리스도’를 비롯한 ‘우리’와 모든 사람들이 설 수밖에 없는 자리로 설정하고 있는 의도를 포함하여 다루었다. 이러한 견지에서, 바울은 그리스도가 저주를 받은 이유와 우리를 저주에서 구속한 이유에 대해 논증한다. 그 이유는 이방인들에게 아브라함의 복을, 바울을 포함한 갈라디아 교회의 크리스천들인 ‘우리’에게 성령의 약속을 받을 수 있도록 하기 위함이었다. 무엇보다도 이방인들과 우리가 이와 같은 ‘복’과 ‘약속’을 받기 위해서는 그리스도 예수에 대한 믿음이 필요하다는 것이다. 바울의 저주 단락의 강조점은, 율법의 행위들에 의존하는 자들을 믿음에 속한 자들과 구별 짓고 그들을 비난하는 데 목적이 있는 것이 아니다. 오히려 유대인 크리스천들과 이방인 크리스천들 중에 율법의 행위에 의존하는 자들과 믿음에 속한 자들 간의 갈등을 해소함으로 갈라디아 크리스천들의 신앙의 동질성을 회복하려는 데 그 목적이 있던 것으로 보인다. 따라서 바울은 3:10-12에서 율법의 행위들에 의존하는 자들을 저주 아래 있는 자로 규정할 뿐만 아니라, 더 나아가 13-14절에서는 바울을 포함한 갈라디아 크리스천들인 ‘우리’ 모두와 ‘그리스도’조차도 저주 아래 있는 자로 규정하는 것이다. 이와 같이 바울이 저주의 대상 가운데 율법의 행위들에 의존하는 자들과 함께 자신을 포함한 ‘우리’와 ‘그리스도’를 포함한 것은 결국 복과 약속의 대상 가운데에도 지금 율법의 행위들에 의존하는 자들도 미래에는 돌이켜 믿음에 속한 자들로 설 수 있기를 기대하는 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article aims to show what response Paul intended to elicit from the Galatian churches when he presented Christ as a receiver of all three, namely, ‘curse,’ ‘blessing’ and ‘promise.’ That is, we will examine Galatians 3:10-14 in its context with respect to Christ in the triple receptions. While mentioning separately the receiver of curse, blessing and promise, respectively, Paul stated that Christ was a common receiver of all the three and symbolized not merely the curse of the law, but also of Abraham’s blessing and of the promise of the Spirit. In other words, Paul intended in the given text not to separate the receivers of curse, blessing and promise from one another, but rather to integrate the receivers of the three categories in Christ. Furthermore, this study also explains why Paul considered everyone, including ‘Christ’ and ‘we’ (3:13), to be under the curse of the law. He elucidated to the Galatian recipients why Christ was under the curse and, at the same time, redeemed ‘us’ from the curse. The reason was that Abraham’s blessing would be given to the Gentiles and ‘we,’ signifying the Galatian Christians and Paul, could receive the promise of the Spirit. The faith in Christ was essential in order that Gentiles and ‘we’ might receive the ‘blessing’ and the ‘promise’ altogether. In the pericope of the curse, Paul’s emphasis was not on making a distinction between those who relied upon the works of the law and others who were of faith and reprehending the former. Rather, he purposed in that passage to restore the concord of the Galatian Christians in terms of their faith. To this end, our apostle attempted to resolve the ecclesial conflict between those who were of the works of the law and ones who were of faith. These two groupings were ethnically mixed of Jews and Gentiles. In 3:10-12, Paul regarded those who depended upon the works of the law as placed under the curse of the law, and, in 3:13-14, he also remarked that ‘we’ and even ‘Christ’ were under the same curse. Our apostle expected that those were of the law would turn to faith and become beneficiaries of the blessing and the promise.
