The subject of this study is <The book of fish>, a black and white film directed by Lee Jun-ik, which was released in March 2021, which depicted his life while Jeong Yak-jeon (1758~1816), a scholar of the first year of his ancestors, was in Heuksan-do, West Sea.
Unlike the past historical dramas, which were made with the priority of 'expression and delivery of historical facts' as a top priority, the continuous popularity of Korean historical dramas since the 2000s can be found in terms of 'reproducing into a new story'. Lee Jun-ik is also the only director who expresses historical drama in black and white film. Therefore, the historical drama <Asan Abo>, which has recently been popular, has created a new story containing important issues, discourses and ideologies of modern Korean society based on the exile of Jeong Yak-jeon and his life, and it meets the purpose of this study, which is the meaning of ideology in black and white films in that it is a black and white film. Therefore, this study understands the historical fact of <The book of fish> and the reproduction of the conflict in it as a timely discourse of modern Korean society, and analyzes what it is made of in black and white historical drama films and discusses its meaning.
The conclusions derived from the results of this study are as follows. First, the narrative structure and characters of the movie <The book of fish> and their conflict structure were confirmed through the integrated analysis. The narrative structure of the movie <The book of fish> consists of 13 sequences, and it is composed of three stages of <Confrontation-Transition-Combination> according to the conflict of characters. Second, it produces and strengthens the image that social status is low through intellectualism such as intellectual superiority. Focusing on the confrontation between the man and the man, he gives the value of the intellectual superiority, the high class, and the noble area of the man and creates a contradictory image. Third, the production of subordinate and sub-images is strengthened through class superiority and distributionism. It depicts that important values in society are linked to those who exercise power and capital through conflict patterns and confrontations between Changdae and Chosun society.
