THE activity of village choirs reaches its climax in Westmoreland, a county not hitherto considered musical, and this new musical life is due to the competitions founded by Miss Wakefield in 1885. Such has been the progress that nearly forty choirs competed last month, and Mr. McNaught. who adjudicated, said that the standard of the choirs had risen fifty per cent, since his first visit four years ago.
