      Menadione induced cell death in cultured C2myoblasts. By screening synthetic peptide libraries composedof random sequence of hexapeptides, we identified thehexa-peptides pool of (Ala/Ile)-(Ile/Met)-Val-Ile-Asp-(Met/Ser)-NH₂ that protected the myoblasts against menadione-induced cell death. Pre-incubation with the hexapeptide poolreduced the number of cells detached from culture dishsubstrate and increased the ratio of relative viability againstexpression of Bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic protein. These resultssuggest that the hexapeptides might enhance the resistanceto cell death against menadione by increasing the expressionof Bcl-2.
