현대패션에 나타난 블랙 드레스의 이미지 변화에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 블랙 의상에 나타난 이미지를 이론적 배경으로 하여 샤넬의 리틀 블랙 드레스 이후, 수많은 여성들에게 패션의 고전(classic)으로 자리잡은 블랙 드레스가 각 시대의 사회/문화 배경과 패션경향에 따라 변화된 이미지를 고찰하고, 현대 패션 디자이너들의 블랙 드레스의 경향을 살펴봄으로써 형태와 소재에 따른 디자인 특징과 그에 내포된 이미지를 분석하여 블랙 드레스에 새로운 미적 가치를 부여하고자 하였다.
1. 고대부터 근대까지 블랙 의상에는 상복의 비애감, 종교적 측면의 금욕주의와 절제, 왕의 힘과 위엄을 나타내는 이미지가 표현되고 있다.
2. 시대상황에 따른 현대 블랙 드레스의 이미지변화를 살펴보면, 20세기 초반에는 리틀 블랙 드레스처럼 기능성을 추구한 단순한 형태와 초현실주의에 영향을 받은 블랙 드레스가 선보였다.
20세기 중반에는 우아한 여성성을 강조한 블랙 드레스가 선보였고, 미니멀리즘을 반영한 블랙 드레스가 시스룩 소재와 함께 에로틱한 이미지로 표현되었다.
20세기 후반에는 의복구성의 형식을 파괴한 블랙 드레스가 선보였고, 여성의 성에 대한 인식변화로 바디 컨셔스 스타일의 블랙 드레스가 관능적 이미지로 표현되었다.
3. 현대 블랙 드레스의 실루엣은 단순형, 밀착형, 노출형의 세 가지 형태와 무광택(matte) 소재, 투명(transparent) 소재, 광택 소재(dazzling)로 분류되는 디자인 특징을 갖는다.
단순형의 블랙 드레스는 여성적 우아함을 강조하며 밀착형과 노출형의 블랙 드레스는 여성 신체 곡선을 드러내어 성적인 면이 부각된 에로틱한 이미지를 표현한다.
무광택 소재의 블랙 드레스는 주로 우아하고 품격있는 여성 이미지를 표현하고, 투명 소재와 광택 소재는 고급스러우면서 여성의 성적매력을 드러내는 에로틱한 관능미를 표현한다.
4. 현대 블랙 드레스에 표현된 미적 특성은 관능성, 단순성, 여성성, 현대성, 금욕성 이 5가지로 집약된다.
관능성은 인체곡선을 드러내는 밀착형, 특정부위의 노출형과 비치는 소재, 광택소재를 사용한 블랙 드레스를 통해 여성의 성적 매력을 부각시키고 있다.
단순성은 인위적인 구조선을 배제하여 형태의 단순화를 통해 본질을 추구하는 미니멀리즘과 유사한 개념으로 극도로 장식효과가 절제된 단순한 형태의 블랙 드레스를 통해 표현되고 있다.
여성성은 전통적 여성성에 기인 여성의 곡선미를 부각시켜 정숙하고 우아한 여성적 이미지를 강조하는 것으로 단순한 형태와 벨벳과 새틴소재를 사용한 블랙 드레스를 통해 여성적 화려함과 우아함이 잘 표현되고 있다.
현대성은 모던의 색으로 불리는 블랙과 단순성/기능성의 결합으로 기능적인 면을 강조하고 단순한 형태를 추구한 블랙 드레스를 통해 표현되고 있다.
금욕성은 개인의 육체적, 정신적 욕구를 억제하는 것으로 여성의 인체를 은폐시키는 무 장식의 단순한 형태와 인체의 곡선을 부정한 박스형 실루엣의 블랙 드레스를 통해 표현되고 있다.
이상의 연구를 통해 1920년대에서 현재까지 블랙 드레스는 각 시대의 유행을 반영하고, 형태와 소재의 다양성을 통해 재창조되며 ‘변화’라는 패션의 특징 속에서도 여성복의 클래식(classic)으로 자리매김한 것을 알 수 있다.
그러므로 현대 패션에 나타난 블랙 드레스의 이미지 변화에 관한 연구는 패션을 통해 자아와 자신의 아름다움을 표현하고자 하는 현대 여성들과 이를 충족시키고자 하는 패션 트랜드와 디자인 개발에 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since Chanels Little Black Dress made appearance based on theoretical background of black-colored clothes images, black dress has become classic one for a lot of ladies. The purpose of the study is to give new aesthetic values to black dress by doing followings: 1) research black dress images, which have changed depending upon social and cultural background and fashion trends of each era, 2) examine black dress trend of modern fashion designers and analyze design characteristics and images depending upon forms and materials.
1. From ancient times to modern times, black-colored clothes have expressed peculiar images: mourning dress sorrow, stoicism and temperance from religious aspects, and kings power and dignity, etc.
2. Black dress images have changed depending upon situation of the times:
In early 20th century, the black dress, which had simple form pursuing function like Little Black Dress or was influenced by surrealism, made appearance.
In the middle of the 20th century, two types of the black dresses made appearance: one type which emphasized elegant and feminine beauty, and the other type which reflected minimalism and expressed erotic images together with see-through cloth materials.
In the latter half of the 20th century, new style black dress made appearance to destroy clothes organization form: Body Conscious style of black dress expressed sensual images of women because of womens sex recognition changes.
3. Modern black dress silhouette may be classified into three types, that is to say, simple type, close type and exposure type, and has design characteristics of the materials: matte, transparent and dazzling, etc.
Simple type black dress emphasizes feminine elegance, while close type and exposure type black dresses disclose woman body curve to express erotic images having sexual characteristics. Matte materials made black dress expresses mainly elegant and dignified women images, while transparent materials and dazzling materials made dress does erotic and sensual beauty which discloses high quality and sexual attractiveness of the women.
4. Modern black dress aesthetic characteristics consist of sensualism, simplicity, femineity, modernism and ascetic practice, etc.
Sensualism expresses sexual attractiveness of women through some kinds of black dresses: close type black dress showing human body curves, specific area exposure type black dress, and see-through materials and dazzling materials made black dress.
Simplicity concept is similar to minimalism, which has excluded artificial structure lines and pursues essentials through simplified form: Extreme decoration effects are expressed through black dress having temperate and simple form.
Femineity expresses characteristics of women curvaceousness being originated from traditional femineity to emphasize chaste, modest and elegant women images: The black dress, which is made of simple form, velvet and satin materials, can express feminine splendor and elegance well.
Modernism combines black colour, which is called modern colour, with simplicity and function to express it through black dress which emphasizes function factors and pursues simple form.
Ascetic practice controls mental and physical desire of the individuals and is expressed through following attempts: simple form without decoration covering up woman body and box type silhouette of black dress.
The study evidences that from the 1920s to present time black dress has reflected each eras fashion and has been created again through diversified form and materials and has become classic style of women dress even under fashion characteristics of "changes".
Therefore, the study on image changes of the black dress, which have made appearance at modern fashion, is thought to help develop fashion trends and design, through which modern women express themselves and their beauty.
