조선후기 면제갑주(綿製甲冑) 문양에 대한 연구 I - 문양의 분석과 복원을 중심으로 -

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Korea, the only remaining part of the Cotton Armor of the late Joseon period is a body armor or a vest. It was designated as Registered Cultural Property No. 459 in June 2010. However, there are some more Cotton Armors with appendage (e.g. wide fabric belt and chest protector) and helmets overseas. Therefore, it is essential to study the Cotton Armors from the overseas collections in order to study the full patterns on the Cotton Armor and Helmet. In this study, the patterns stamped on the Cotton Armor and Helmet were focused on which scholars have not yet identified. Such studies on the patterns of the Cotton Armor that were published abroad but not well known in Korea were also introduced in this study. To restore the patterns, we analyzed the prior studies and photos, collections from the National Museum of Korea and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and references on the Taoist symbols, amulet and talisman. This study can be used as basic data for supplementing the future research the symbolism of the patterns and the restoration of the Cotton Armor and Helmet of the late Joseon period.
