<AbsText> SIR,-- As one who for the last 20 years has shot partridges over dogs in spite of the frequency with which those who know best have said that under present day conditions of farming this is impossible or not worth while, it would be of interest to learn from your readers what sort of dog is (or was) considered the best for the purpose. Interest in this question has been awakened in the writer by seeing the frequency with which at field trials (on partridges of course) the awards are given to those dogs which quarter their ground in the approved theoretical style rather than to those which, though they do not seem to "miss" any birds, quarter only so far as is necessary to get the wind and search the ground-- the "game-finder" in fact, as against the "quarterer." </AbsText>
