타자의 시선에 비친 식민지 조선 영화계

국문 초록 (Abstract)

일제강점기 우리는 민족적으로는 분리되어 있었지만 일본인들과 하나의 국가를 형성하고 있었다. 이런 점을 생각할 때 식민지 조선의 극장과 조선영화는 비단 우리만의 체험 대상이 아니라 일본인들과 공유하는 체험 대상이었다. 이런 인식을 기반으로 하여 이 글은 일제강점기 일본인들이 식민지 조선의 극장과 조선영화를 어떻게 바라보고 있었는가를 살펴보고 있다.
본론의 논의는 크게 두 가지로 구분된다. 하나는 일본인들이 식민지 조선의 극장을 다니면서 무엇을 느꼈는가에 관한 것이고, 다른 하나는 조선영화를 어떤 관점에서 바라보면서 비평하고 있는가에 관한 것이다. 첫 번째 논의와 관련해서는 그 당시 극장의 설비나 관객 문화, 영화 필름, 영화 선호도 등을 중심으로 논의를 전개하고 있다. 또 두 번째 논의와 관련해서는 그 당시 조선영화를 대표할 만한 몇 편의 영화를 선정하여 일본인들의 반응을 검토하고 있다. 이런 논의 과정에서 그 당시 일본인들이 기본적으로 조선영화를 일본영화나 서구영화에 비해서 열등한 것으로 보고 있음을 알 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Japanese colonial era, we were detached ethnically, but were forming one country with Japanese. When we think this, Joseon theaters and Joseon movies of colonial era were not only experience target of ours but also that of Japanese. Based on this awareness, this writing examined how Japanese have seen theaters and Joseon movies of Japanese colonial era. By this investigation, we can understand realities of cultural sphere of Japanese colonial era which had its own autonomy unlike political sphere of colonial domination and resistance.
Discussions of main discourse is classified into two greatly. One is what Japanese had felt by going to theaters of colonial Joseon. And the other is how they had reviewed Joseon movies from which viewpoint. In connection with first discussions, I unfolded discussions laying stress on installment or audience culture of the theaters, state of cinema films, movie preference etc. Also, in connection with second discussions, I selected some movies worth representing Joseon movies and examined reactions of Japanese to them. In this discussion, we can know that at that time, Japanese had seen Joseon movies inferior to Western European movies or Japanese movies basically. On occasion, some Japanese showed racial discrimination consciousness. But, previous evaluations were based on universal sight generally. And sometimes, they have showed fairly sympathetic attention and sincere research attitude toward characteristics of Joseon movies or advised for Joseon movie circle’s development.
