In this article I deal with the translation condition of a Korean Translation of the Bible, i.e. New Korean Revised Version (1998), with reference to the prescript of the letters in the NT. Although the letters in NT stood in the Greco-Roman letter tradition in terms of the structure and form, those of letters in NT had their own features. Among them, the literary form of the prescript of the letters in the NT is worthy to be paid attention because the prescript of the letters in the NT (especially, Pauline letters) has its own form, i.e. the combination of the sender and the recipient phrase + grace and peace wish phrase. This pattern is very unique in the history of the Greco- Roman epistolography, which had almost kept the one-sentence prescript of letters, i.e. the sender-the recipient or the reverse-[greetings verb] . However, in the translation of New Korean Revised Version this characteristic has not been reflected. When we consider both that the very aim of a translation is faithfully to carry the meaning of the original text to the targeted language and recent translation scholarship deeply understand the importance of the generic features of the original work in translation, the current situation is not recommendable. In this situation, in order to help the translator to reach the better translation of the prescript of letters, I will primarily investigate the literary form of the prescript of both the Greco Roman letters and the letters in the NT and offer some tips to understand the generic features of the prescript of the letters in NT, which will become a basic information for a better Korean translation of the Bible.
