‘탈 진실 시대’ 눈물의 의미 : 브뤼노 뒤몽(Bruno Dumont)의 영화 <프랑스>를 중심으로 = The Meaning of Tears in the ‘Post-truth Era’: Focusing on Bruno Dumont’s Film France

국문 초록 (Abstract)

브뤼노 뒤몽(Bruno Dumont)의 영화 < 프랑스(France) >(2020)는 프랑스의 대표적인 스타 배우인 레아 세이두(Lea Seydoux)를 여주인공으로 캐스팅하여 영화상에서 프랑스 드 뫼르(France de Meurs)라는 스타 아나운서의 희극적이자 비극적인 삶을 그리고 있는 영화이다. 이 영화는 탈진실의 시대라는 현대의 모습을 프랑스라는 등장인물을 통해 풍자적으로 접근하면서 진실의 의미에 대해 질문하고 있다. 논문은 우선 프랑스라는 여주인공을 통해 스펙터클의 사회가 어떻게 이미지를 신화화하며 전쟁조차도 이미지를 통해 소비하고 있는가 하는 문제를 비판적 관점에서 고찰하고자 할 것이다. 그리고 두 번째 <프랑스>의 여주인공 프랑스가 흘리는 눈물의 의미가 무엇인지에 대한 탐색을 통해 영화의 미학적 윤리적 문제를 탐색하고자 할 것이다. 뒤몽의 영화에서 클로즈업은 융합적인 감동과 연관된 정동 이미지라기보다는 의도적으로 감정이입을 차단하여 얼굴을 평면화하고 있다. 이러한 평면화를 통해 관객을 부재의 감정 속에 놓고 있음을 해명하고 있다. 그리고 <프랑스>에 주요한 이미지로 나타나는 눈물 이미지를 분석하면서 이 영화에 나타난 정치적 윤리적 의미를 해명하고 있다.

Bruno Dumont's film France(2020) depicts the comical and tragic life of a star announcer ‘France de Meurs’, by casting France's representative star actress Lea Seydoux as the heroine. This film sarcastically approaches the post-truth era through the character France and questions the meaning of truth. First of all, the paper examines how the society of spectacle mythologizes images through the heroine France. And we will examine from a critical perspective the question of how even war is consumed through images. Second, we will try to explore the aesthetic and ethical issues of the film by exploring the meaning of the tears shed by France, the heroine of France. In Bruno Dumont's films, close-ups intentionally block empathy and flatten the face, rather than being affective images related to integrated emotion. Through this flattening, this paper explains how the film places the audience in the feeling of absence. Then by analyzing the image of tears that appears as a major image in France, we are elucidating the political and ethical meaning shown in this film.
