한강 노벨문학상 수상 이후의 한국문학과 번역 - 남아 있는 문제와 새로운 과제 = Korean Literature and Translation after Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature - Old and New Questions

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한강의 노벨문학상 수상을 계기로 쓴 본 논문은 한국문학의 현재 글로벌 위상과 그와 관련된 담론의 최근 변화를 분석한다. 코로나19 범유행이 시작될 즈음 한강의 맨부커 국제상 수상 등 여러 변화의 지연 효과로 인해 한국문학이 인식되지 않았던 문학에서 한류의 확장으로 전환되는 ‘상전이’가 일어났음을 주장한다. 그러나 한국문학의 큰 성과에도 불구하고 작품 선택, 번역가, 번역 담론에 있어서 오래된 문제들이 여전히 남아 있다고 지적한다. 또한 본고는 한강의 노벨문학상 수상 이후 새로 생긴 과제도 살펴본다. 궁극적으로 한국문학의 최근 성공에 있어 번역가와 한국문학의 다양성이 핵심 요인임을 결론짓고, 향후 자금 지원의 방향을 설정하기 위해서는 새로운 세대의 배경이 다양한 번역가와 독자층의 취향을 인식하는 것이 중요하다고 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Taking Han Kang’s winning of the Nobel prize in literature as inspiration to look back and forward, this study analyzes the current global status of Korean literature and the recent change in discourse surrounding that status. It is argued that around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there was a phase transition in which Korean literature transformed from a unrecognized literary tradition to an extension of the Korean Wave. However, despite the great of achievements of Korean authors, it is argued that there are still old questions that need to be solved, regarding work selection, translators, and translation practices. In addition to this, the paper looks at the new challenges facing translation of Korean literature now that Han Kang has won the Nobel prize. Ultimately, the paper concludes that translators and diversity are the key to Korean literature’s recent success, and that in order to determine the future direction for funding, we must understand the effect that this new generation of diverse translators has had on the translation and promotion of Korean literature to international audiences.
