LCCM을 활용한 ‘힘’의 통시적 인지모형 분석 = A Diachronic Cognitive Model Analysis of ‘Him (Strength/Power)’ Using LCCM Theory

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 ‘힘’의 의미 변천을 인지의미론적 관점에서 탐구하여 중세·근대·현대 한국어에서 ‘힘’이 형성한 의미망의 구조와 확장 경로를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 Evans(2009, 2013, 2015)의 어휘개념과 인지모형(Lexical Concepts and Cognitive Models, LCCM) 이론을 적용하고, 국립국어원 모두의 말뭉치 중 국어 역사 말뭉치 및 구문 분석 말뭉치 2024를 파이썬으로 전처리·분석하여 시대별 ‘힘’ 용례를 추출·분류하였다. 분석 결과, 중세 국어에서 ‘힘’은 신체적 실체인 힘줄을 원형으로 하였으며, 근대 국어에서는 정신적 통제력·사회 관계적 지원·국가적 세력으로 의미 영역이 확장되었다. 현대 국어에서는 정치·물리·기계·심리적·초월적 작용까지 포괄하는 복합적 의미망이 형성되었음을 확인하였다. 이러한 의미 확장은 방사형·사슬형 구조로 설명되며, 사회·문화적 변화와 언어 공동체의 인식 전환이 그 동인으로 작용했음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 ‘힘’의 의미망을 통시적으로 시각화하고, 인지모형 분석을 통해 어휘 의미 변천과 사회·문화적 요인의 상관성을 체계화 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the diachronic semantic change of the Korean lexical item him (“strength” or “power”) from the perspective of cognitive semantics, aiming to identify the structure and expansion pathways of its semantic network across Middle, Early Modern, and Contemporary Korean. To this end, the study adopts the Lexical Concepts and Cognitive Models (LCCM) theory proposed by Evans (2009, 2013, 2015), and extracts and analyzes instances of him from the Korean Historical Corpus and the 2024 Syntactic Corpus provided by the National Institute of the Korean Language, using Python-based preprocessing. The analysis reveals that in Middle Korean, him was originally grounded in the physical substance of tendons, serving as its prototypical meaning. In Early Modern Korean, the meaning expanded to encompass domains such as mental control, social support, and national power. In Contemporary Korean, him has developed into a complex semantic network that spans political, physical, mechanical, psychological, and transcendent domains. These semantic expansions are accounted for using both radial and chain-like structures, which reflect shifts in socio-cultural context and collective conceptualization within the speech community. This study is 28significant in that it visualizes the diachronic semantic network of him, and offers a cognitively grounded model that systematically correlates lexical semantic change with socio-cultural factors.
