아동과 주거환경 관련 국내 연구 동향 분석 = Analytic Review of Research Trends on Children and Residential Environment

(Background and Purpose) As children spend a lot of time in a residential environment, the influence and meaning of housing is more important than other age groups. The purpose of this study is to grasp the research trend up to the present by examining previous research articles related to children and residential environment in the last 20 years to draw academic suggestions for improving the quality of life of children and to make suggestions for further research. (Method) For the purpose of the study, content analysis was conducted, focusing on research on the relationship between children and the residential environment among research papers published in domestic research journals from 2000 to 2019. As an analysis framework for this, variables such as the time period of publication, research method, research field, research object, research purpose, and keyword were included. (Results) Studies on children and residential environments have been continuously increasing since the 2000s. In terms of research method, quantitative research was predominant, while qualitative research was gradually increasing. In the field of academic research, research in the fields of human ecology continued to take the largest portion, followed by the fields of architecture and urban, art, and design that deal with the physical environment. In the case of the research subjects, it was dealt with in the order of residence, play space and facilities, childcare facilities, and welfare facilities. For research purposes, it was found that the study of correlation and causality between children and various residential environments and related variables was the most frequent. The keyword areas that were frequently mentioned in the subject papers related to children and residential environment were psychological, physical, and emotional development, childcare and welfare facilities, and play spaces and facilities. (Conclusions) In recent years, studies on children and residential environments have seen many studies dealing with space planning and design guidelines or design proposals. Based on the existing theoretical background, it can be seen that it shows the trend of research to improve their quality of life through concrete and practical physical planning for children. Overall, quantitative research through questionnaire and panel analysis is the most common, but in the future, it is necessary to grasp the relationship and needs between children and the residential environment in a variety of ways through complex research that combines qualitative research with other research methods. Recently, there has been an increasing tendency to analyze residential environments of more comprehensive children, such as child protection areas and communities, in addition to housing. In the future, in-depth follow-up studies on various educational facilities environments where children spend a lot of time are also needed.
