『고려사절요』 경제 관련 기사의 수용과 변용 - 「식화지」와 비교를 통한 고찰 = Reception and Transformation of Economic Articles in the Goryeosa jeoryo(高麗史節要): A Comparative Study with the ‘Sikhwaji(食貨志)’

This paper comprehensively examined the compilation intent and historical nature of the Goryeosa Jeolyo (『⾼麗史節要』, hereafter Jeolyo) by comparing and analyzing the economic articles recorded in the Jeolyo with the 'Sikhwaji' (「⻝貨志」, Treatise on Food and Goods) of the Goryeosa (『⾼麗史』, History of Goryeo). An analysis of the trends in the inclusion of articles by topic and period revealed that while the Jeolyo adopted 64% of the total 510 articles in the 'Sikhwaji,' its narrative focus was not on systematically covering the entirety of core economic institutions such as taxation or land systems. Instead, it highlighted the formation of institutions during the early Goryeo period and the institutional turmoil of the late period. Notably, due to the compilation principle that emphasized divine retribution (天譴) for natural disasters (災異), disaster relief-related articles (賑恤, jinhyul) were highly reflected. There was also a tendency to focus on late-period articles that supported the legitimacy of the Joseon Dynasty's founding, such as the Nokgwajeon (Land Granted by Rank), which discussed land reform, and Gwalyeom (科斂, Excessive Exaction), which depicted severe exploitation. Furthermore, a typological analysis of the common articles in both historical sources confirmed that the majority were either Identical-Type (faithfully adhering to the original text) or Summary-Type (condensing the core content), reflecting the narrative strategy of a chronological history book (pyeonnyeonche). Moreover, through Complementary-Type and Extended-Type articles, which are richer in content than the ‘Sikhwaji’, the study demonstrated that the Jeolyo is not merely an abridgement of the Goryeosa but an independent chronological historical record with significant historical value, having enriched its content by referencing other historical materials and reflecting the compilers' unique judgment.
