In global society, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) have been actively engaging in addressing various areas of global issue such as environment, development, human rights and health across boards since mid of 20th century. Since 1990s Korean Development NGOs have made effort to contribute to address global poverty and related issues.
Education has been one of the main areas that Korean Development NGOs’ have been focusing their efforts on. This paper shows not only the primary contents, such as the size and regions in education Korean Development NGOs have assisted, but also their partnerships with various entities. In additions, it includes type of projects and relations with international education agenda, for instance, MDGs and EFA.
According to the result of this study, Korean Development NGOs’ own financial supports (77%) on education have exceeded the supports through ODA to NGO (23%). Second, education projects have concentrated in Asia
and Pacific (57%) and Africa and Middle East (41%). Third, the countries were Cambodia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Uganda, representing 41% among the total number of education program. Fourth,
in terms of project identification, there are differences between Korean NGOs and INGO’s branch. Fifth, the Korean Development NGOs have partnership with various local entities. Sixth most the Korean Development NGOs are
conducting participatory ways. Seventh, Korean Development NGOs are using PPP (Public Private Partnership) in their project implementation.
