현상학에서 에디트 슈타인의 위치 -라이나흐와 헤트비히 콘라트-마르티우스, 그리고 Meister 후설- = Edith Stein's Position in Phenomenology : Related to Adolf Reinach, Hedwig Conrad-Martius, Meister Edmund Husserl

Edith Stein(1891-1942) is regarded as one of the significant figures in the philosophical circles of the 20th century. Stein received her doctorate under the supervision of Edmund Husserl, who represented modern phenomenology. As a realistic phenomenologist associated with the Göttingen circle, she is also recognized as a thinker who tried to reconstruct the original approaches of metaphysics while anti-metaphysic ideas were emerging as a new trend. Stein's philosophy has been studied in a wide range of academia abroad, and the results are being published in papers or volumes. While only a little research on Stein has been carried out in Korea, this paper reviews Stein's ideas by focusing on her phenomenology among her various philosophical areas. Phenomenology became the essential foundation for Stein to make known to the world as her a philosopher. It was also the field in which she played a significant role in her academic circle. This paper starts from the simple question of how to understand Stein’s position in phenomenology. In answering this question, this paper is expected to reveal the validity and academic journey of Stein's phenomenology. Moreover, these reviews may indirectly suggest her connections and scholarly interactions with other contemporary realistic phenomenologists in Germany, such as Adolf Reinach and Hedwig Conrad-Martius. Thus, this paper has two primary purposes. First, it examines Stein's position and implications in phenomenology when defining her work as realistic phenomenology. Second, this paper investigates the similarities and differences between Stein's phenomenology and the discussions of other realistic phenomenologists in Germany.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

에디트 슈타인(Edith Stein, 1891-1942)은 20세기 철학자 들 중 뛰어난 인물 중 한명이다. 한편으로는 현대 현상학의 대표자인 후설로부터 박사학위 취득 후 괴팅겐 현상학자 모임에서 활동했던 실재론적 현상학자이며, 다른 한편으로는 오늘날 반형이상학시대에 기존 형이상학에 대한 새로운 시각을 재건하기 위해 노력했던 철학자로 평가받고 있다. 이미 국외에서는 슈타인 철학이 다양한 영역에서 연구되고 있는 상황이며 논문이나 저서로 그 결과가 제시되고 있다. 반면에 국내에서 슈타인 연구는 여전히 미진하게 이루어지고 있다고 하겠다. 이러한 상황에서 본 글은 슈타인이 연구했던 다양한 철학 영역 중 철학자 슈타인으로 알려지는데 기본 토대가 되었을 뿐 아니라 가장 큰 역할을 담당했었던 철학 분야가 현상학이라는 점을 부각시키며 출발한다. 다시 말해서 오늘날 슈타인이라는 철학자가 알려질 수 있었던 계기는 현상학자로서 슈타인이라 할 수 있으며, 만일 그렇다면 현상학 안에서 에디트 슈타인의 그것은 어느 지점에 위치해 있는가를 소개하는데 본 글의 기본 목표가 있다. 그 과정에서 현상학자로서 그녀의 타당성과 학문 궤적이 드러날 것이다. 슈타인의 철학에서 그녀의 현상학을 조망하는 이 목표는 물론 슈타인의 그것을 드러내는 일차적 목표를 염두에 두고 있으나, 다른 한편으로는 슈타인 현상학을 통해서 당시 20세기 독일 실재론적 현상학자, 예컨대 아돌프 라이나흐와 헤트비히 콘라트-마르티우스의 철학 여정과 연관성이 간접적으로 제시될 수 있다는 점에 또 하나의 중요한 목표를 두고 있다.
