Current Chinese writing and literature education in Korea adopts a new category entitled `Reading` in the framework of new Chinese writing and literature curriculum and helps students to face and learn a revived version of straight reading (聲讀) which our ancestors practiced. Or it adopts applied version of straight reading and thereby can suggest more advanced `reading` model for students. In the above context, this study deals with discussion about historical changes of `reading` category contained in new Chinese writing and literature curriculum and also examines reading education in traditional instruction of Chinese writing and literature. In addition, this study addresses practices of reading education in our contemporary Chinese writing and literature curriculum, and intends to improve ways of teaching and learning in Chinese writing and literature through reading education, so that it is expected that there will be decreasing number of non-major teachers who instruct students in Chinese writing and literature in the future.
