This paper is intended for farmers seeking to diversify their farm business and to address a practical guidance in evaluating the feasibility of diversification opportunities in individual farming and rural circumstances. The study covers the topics such as the following: socio-economic background for diversifying the farming business ; analyses of rural resources and place assets ; potential analysis of marketing agricultural products; and project appraisal of developing rural service market. The paper also proposes possible alternative agricultural and farm business, with a selected case study(Nam-won in Jeonbuk province) based on actual small family farming operations. Diversification of the farm business is a fairly new concept but it has to be focused on developing direct marketing of the local farming products integrated with farming-based education services or rural place assets-based recreational services.
