This thesis aims at studying practical methods in high school English class. Now, the English texts used in high school do not give students fun, interest, and satisfaction. It deals with current events and many separated topics. It cannot give students continuous interest and fun. Students have difficulty in being moved by and interested in English.Literature is a meaningful and authentic material. It is the work of imagination and the whole reflection of its own culture. Language learning is not just training or memorizing useful expressions. It is also a creative process and means to understand each other''s opinion and express one''s feeling. Students can be encouraged to understand culture at large on the basis of understanding literature and motivated to study English.Most students have no chance to express their thought freely in the class. Teacher-centered and text-oriented class cannot motivate students to participate in English class. English literature class can give students the opportunities to expand their linguistic ability and motivate themselves.By analyzing one of the most representative novels written in English, Alice''s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the teacher can introduce and activate various teaching methods such as word chart, cloze puzzle, writing, describing the pictures, story mapping, guessing, and so on. As the students take active parts in a group activity, they can discuss the given topic according to their own points of view and learn many things through correcting their errors by themselves.Teacher is a designer for the class. Through elaborate analysis and dissection, he can create ideal language class. Literature is the creative work. Students can give full play to their imagination in English literature class. It is time to introduce English literature to a curriculum of English education in high school.
