ABSTRACTThe purposes of this essay are to identify the Korean school curriculum and to
fine the characteristics of Korean school curriculum. To perform the purposes I try
to find the criteria distinguished from a general curriculum. In order to find the
criteria I reviewed the history of Korean school curriculum.What I have found through reviewing history of Korean school curriculum is
that school curriculum is similar to the national level's curriculum leaded by
Korean government. The Korean school curriculum was revised six times from
1945 to 1995, and Korean government is making new school curriculum now.Even though each school curriculum has its own characteristic differentiated
from others, the main characteristics of Korean school curriculum could be
summarized like followings.Firstly, Korean school curriculum is affected by American curriculum thoughts.
It means that Korean school curriculum is almost Americanized.Secondly, Korean political situation affects Korean school curriculum. It means
that political leaders regard school curriculum as a tool which implements their
political policy.Thirdly, Korean school curriculum is centerized to government too much.It
means that Korean government controls all school curriculum.
