It is well known that English is a language with overt movement of wh-phrases to the Spec position of CP, whereas Korean is a wh-in situ language. That is, the Spec position of interrogative CP must be filled by a wh-phrase in English in overt syntax, but not in Korean. However, the wh-element of wh-question in Korean can be fronted to the initial position of the sentence in some cases. In this paper, we compare wh-fronting in English and Korean, and examine the similarities and differences between English and Korean under the so-called Minimalist Program.
