Some effect on the absorption rates of the nutrients in the growing and adult albino rats have been studied.
The experimental animals were fed on the standard diet and unbalanced protein diet, such as protein free diet and the diet unbalanced by adding sodium-glutamate to 80% polished wheat for 40 days.
The absorption rates of protein, fat, carbohydrate, calcium and phosphorus have been measured.
The results obtained are as follows:
    1. The protein absorption rates in the growing and adult rats were similar tendency in between standard diet and unbalanced protein diet groups for 25 days but the unbalanced diet group showed lower than standard diet group in both growing and adult animals for 40 days feeding.
    2. The protein excreted in feces of the growing and adult rats were 0.05~0.32g even in the condition of protein free diet.
    3. The nitrogen balance in the growing rats were positive balance by feeding on unbalanced protein diet, but the nitrogen retention were lower than the standard diet group. On the other hand, adult rats showed similar retention effect in early stage of feeding standard diet and unbalanced diet, but the unbalanced diet group gradually showed lower retention rate than the standard diet group thereafter.
    4. The fat absorption rates in the growing rats fed on the protein free diet in the early stage were lower than that of the standard diet group, but it showed similar level in between both diet groups fed for 40 days.
    5. The carbohydrate absorption rates and calory utilization rates in the growing and adult rats fed on unbalanced protein diet were higher than that of the standard diet group, respectively.
    6. The calcium absorption rates and retention in the growing and adult rats fed on the protein free and unbalanced protein diet, were lower than that of the standard diet group, respectively.
    7. The phosphorus absorption rates in the growing and adult rats were no remarkable change by feeding on unbalanced protein diet for 15 days, compared with the standard diet group, decreased by feeding for 40 days.
It is concluded from the above results that the protein free and unbalanced protein diets decreased not only the absorption and utilization rates of protein but also of other nutrients.
