    Gender based violence (GBV) is a pervasive problem in Tanzania where it is mainly practised in honour of culture and secrecy of the home. Victims have been suffering in silence without meaningful interventions due to lack of information. This study aimed at revealing the status of GBV using Serengeti district as a study area. Cross sectional design was employed to 240 women. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were applied. From the findings, (85%)reported wife battery being practiced in the area, followed by early marriage (60.8%) and deprivation of women from acquiring basic need (60.8 Female genital mutilation (FGM) (44.6%) and widow ritual cleansing (34%) were practised placing the victims into risk of acquiring HTV/AIDS. The study recommends multiple strategies by all sectors in order to fight against GBV.
