향과 빛의 이미지를 표현한 금속조형 연구

Due to the busy life, modern people are trying to find an outlet to reach the peace of mind. Having various influence on peoples sensibility and emotion, aroma and light gives psychological peace, cheers one up and makes one feel the relief of the soul.
Having studied the image of aroma and light through Korean culture, I molded objects melting with utility and beauty and tried to apply that into life. At the same time, I think looking back the culture of our ancestors and meditating the wisdom is the most important in making our culture known to the world. I explained our ancestors life from the modern point of view and sublimed the image of aroma and light to the metal formative arts so as to offer the psychological peace.
The following are the contents of the paper.
First, through the theoretical study of incense container, I researched the origin and history of incense, the different effect of different incense and incense burners, incense cases. All these made me meditate on the wisdom of our ancestors.
Second, with the study of lamp as the centre figure, I studied the origin, change, variety and use of lamp in Korea, as well as the difference of lamp using in different situation.
Third, making the containers of incense and light feel manual, I tried to give peace feeling to people. Making the organic state alive, I applied the freedom of the metal line to our traditional craftsmanship which uses straw usually. I studied the incense used in the incense case and made incense myself which is used in my project.
Through these research, I made 59 works that show the image of aroma and light: 16 accessories, 4 incense dishes, 20 candleholders, 5 lamps and 14 other objects. These works were exhibited as a part of Master Degree Requirement.
In the future I will continue to do research on the formative arts and learn the wisdom of our ancestors. I will contribute to making molding useful in peoples life.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대인들은 여유 없는 바쁜 생활을 하기 때문에 마음의 안정을 찾을 수 있는 휴식을 찾고자 한다. 향(香)과 빛은 사람들의 감성과 정서에 다양한 영향을 주는 요소로 심리적인 안정을 주며, 기분을 즐겁게 해주고 마음의 휴식을 느끼게 해준다.
본 연구자는 향과 빛이 갖는 이미지를 우리의 문화를 통해 고찰하였으며, 실용성과 미를 겸한 조형물을 제작하여 생활과 함께 공유하고자 하였다. 또한, 선조들의 옛 문화를 다시 한번 살펴보고 지혜로움을 되새겨보는 것이 세계 속에 우리의 문화를 알리는 데 무엇보다 중요하다고 생각하며, 옛 선조들의 생활문화를 현대에 맞게 재해석하고 향과 빛의 이미지를 금속조형예술로 승화시켜 정신적인 편안함을 제공하고자 하였다.
본 논문의 연구 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 향을 담는 용기로 쓰인 향기(香器)에 관한 이론적 고찰을 통하여 향의 유래와 역사를 살펴보고 종류에 따른 효능에 대하여 정리해 보았으며, 향기의 종류인 향로와 향집을 연구하여 우리나라 선조들의 지혜로운 삶을 되새겨보았다.
둘째, 등기(燈器)에 관한 연구를 중심으로, 우리나라 등기의 기원과 변천, 종류와 용도, 생활환경에 따른 등기의 차이에 대하여 살펴보았다.
셋째, 작품제작에 있어 향과 빛을 담는 금속용기는 수공예적인 느낌으로 사람들에게 편안함을 제공하고자 하였고, 유기적인 형태를 살려 금속선의 자유로움을 우리의 짚 문화인 바구니 세공 기법에서 응용하여 제작해 보았다. 또한 향집에 사용된 향을 연구하여 직접 향을 만들어 보고 작품에 응용해 보았다.
이와 같은 연구 과정을 통해, 향과 빛의 이미지를 표현한 금속조형을 장신구 16점, 향꽂이 4점, 촛대 20점, 전등 5점, 오브제(object) 14점 등 총 59점의 작품을 제작하여 석사학위청구전을 가진 바 있다.
앞으로 우리의 문화를 통한 조형예술의 연구가 끊임없이 계속되어 선조들의 지혜로운 삶을 이해하고, 사람들의 생활과 함께하는 금속조형을 추구하는 데 그 의의를 두었다.
