The purposes of this study were to survey the development and current status of technical education which has a leading part in the fostering of technical manpower in the process of the industrialization in Korea, to analize several immediate problems in technical high schools in connection with the breakthrough of the shortage of technical manpower which has been raised as a serious problem in recent years, and to survey the way to improve such conditions. The plans to be deviced or reformed to improve the technical high school education, meeting the demand of the times such as the changes of industrial structure in Korea and the changes of circumstances in society and in educational scene, can be summarized as follows. 1. To revise the curriculum for technical high schools into the system which gives primacy to the specialized practial subjects than to the specialized theoretical subjects by the course. 2. To consolidate the complementary cooperation among enterprises, schools, and vocational training institutes by extending the ranges of school-industry cooperation system. 3. To extend and to activate the joint training centers in the fields of machinery, electricity, and construction. 4. To establish short-term courses attached to technical high schools (provisional name) to cope flexibly with the fostering and supply of technical manpower.
