범용기술 측정 및 구분을 통한 범용기술혁신 패턴과 방향성 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 국내에서 연구가 미흡한 범용기술(general purpose technology)의 개념과 특성을 소개하고 기업차원에서 기술의 범용성 확보를 위해 고려해야할 실무적 지침을 마련하고자 한다. 이를 위해 선행연구들에서 범용기술로 입증된 인터넷을 대상으로 분석을 시행하였다. 제시한 범용기술의 고유 특성과 환경적 고려요인은 보급성, 향상성, 혁신독려성 등 3가지와 망외부성 효과이다. 망외부성효과는 사용자의 수 증가에 따라 그 가치도 함께 증가하는 제품 및 서비스를 말한다. 추가적으로 기업 내부적 고려요인으로 기술수용모형을 적용하여 연구모형을 구축하고 검정하였다. 연구결과, 인터넷 범용기술 3가지 특성인 보급성, 향상성, 혁신독려성 등은 직·간접으로 망외부성 효과와 기업의 인터넷 용이성과 유용성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 인터넷 용이성과 유용성은 인터넷 활용의도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 그간 선행연구들에서 과학적으로 입증하지 못했던 범용기술의 특성과 망외부성간의 관계를 입증하고 기업수준에서 범용기술을 수용하는 인과관계를 입증한 것이다. 본 연구는 그동안 거시적인 관점에서만 고려되었던 범용기술 연구의 한계를 넘어 기업수준에서 범용기술의 특성과 망외부성 효과에 대해 연구한 최초의 연구로 공헌하는 바가 크다고 판단된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Bresnahan and Trajtenberg (1995) considered technology like dynamo to be gerenal purpose technology, or GPT. According to them, a GPT is a fundamental invention that may appear of little value in and of itself but that is shared both within and across industries, and enables valuable inventions and innovations within a wide variety of application areas. In existing literature, it is conceptually suggested that GPTs possess three distinctive characteristics (Bresnahan and Treajtenberg, 1995; Petsas, 2003; Jovanovic and Rousseau, 2005). The current study aims to specify three characteristics based on the precedent. In addition, unlike previous studies that measured GPTs with respect to macroeconomic indice, we are to assess GPTs at the firm level. To evaluate how firms conceive GPTs, we took both internal and external factors into account. When it comes to internal factors, we examined which psychological factors affected users‘ behavior. In terms of external factors, we made use of network externality effects that was already pointed out in the Bresnahan and Trajtenberg(1995) research in order to evaluate developing practice and intention of GPTs in firms. This study will be the first case that explores GPTs on an individual firm level.
