국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 전쟁과 군사지리라는 측면에서 일제강점기 일본군이 작성한병요지리와 전쟁유적을 살펴보았다. 병요지리는 작전 필요에 따라 특정 지역의 자연지리 조건과 사회적 요소 및 작전 행동에 대한 영향을 종합적 으로 기술하고 평가한 군사자료이다. 이 글에서 검토한 병요지리는 朝 鮮沿岸内陸兵要地理(慶尙南道)이다. 1945년 6월 10일 제17방면군사령 부와 조선군관구사령부에서 작전을 위해 제작한 1:50,000축척의 군사지 도로, 총 17종이다. 각 지역별 제작된 지도에는 미군의 상륙 예상 지점과 병력수, 지역별 상세 정보, 축성된 군사시설, 소형비행장 적지 등 정보가 세세하기 기술되어 있다. 1945년 4월 경남지역은 부산요새관구로 재편 되어 본토결전 준비를 위한 대한해협과 부산항의 수송작전, 미군의 상륙 방어를 주요 임무로 했다. 이와 관련한 경남지역의 전쟁유적이 현재도 곳 곳에 남아있다. 이 글은 병요지리에 대한 연구이자 전쟁유적에 대한 검토이다. 일본이아시아태평양전쟁 당시 한반도에서 어떠한 전쟁을 펼치고 어떠한 군사 작전을 실시했는지 알 수 있는 자료가 병요지리이다. 군사적 침탈에 대한 대부분의 중요한 사료가 일본에 의해 소각된 상황에서 한반도에 남아있 는 일본군의 군사적 침탈 흔적, 특히 전쟁유적에 대한 설명을 보완하는데 병요지리의 역할이 클 것으로 생각한다.

In this article, we look at the military journals and war monuments created by the Japanese military during the Japanese occupation in terms of war and military geography. Military geography is a military document that comprehensively describes and evaluates the natural geographical conditions and social factors of a specific area and their impact on operational behavior according to operational needs. The military map reviewed in this article, <朝鮮沿岸内陸兵要地理(慶尙 南道)>, was produced on June 10, 1945. The maps for each region are detailed with information such as the expected landing sites of American troops, the number of troops, detailed information about each region, military facilities, and small airfields. This is the time of preparation for the Grand Assault. Gyeongsangnam-do was reorganized into the Busan Fortress District, whose main tasks were to protect the Korean Strait, transportation operations at Busan Port, and the landing of American troops. Remnants of the war remain in Gyeongsangnam-do to this day. This article is a study of military geography and a review of war remains. Military history is a source of information on how Japan fought and conducted military operations on the Korean Peninsula during the Asia-Pacific War. Most of the important documentation of military occupation was burned by the Japanese. In this situation, military history has a great role to play in supplementing the description of the remaining traces of Japanese military aggression on the Korean Peninsula, especially the war remains.
