The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of father’s psychological life position and fathering practices on young children’s socio-emotional development. Subjects of this study were 320 fathers having 4 to 7-year-old children and 50 their children’s teachers drawn from 9 preschool in Cheong-Ju city. Data were analyzed by frequency, mean(M), standard deviation(SD), percentage, t-test, ANOVA, LSD post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation using SPSS WIN program.
The results of this study were as follow; 1. Father’s psychological life position was significantly different according to father’s educational level, age, job and domestic economy level, fathering practices was significantly different in father’s educational level, age, job, children’s age and birth order. 2. The internal control, interaction with peers, achievement motive of girls were superior to boy’s internal control, interaction with peers, achievement motive, children’s interaction with peers were appeared to be high when mother had job. Fathers who graduated university, professional were higher than the others in children’s achievement motive, curiosity. 3. Father’s positive position to himself were significantly different in children’s internal control, a sense of security in preschool, achievement motive, curiosity, father’s positive position to others were significantly different in children’s internal control, a sense of security in preschool. 4. Father’s fathering practices were significantly different in children’s internal control, a sense of security in preschool, achievement motive and curiosity. 5. There were significantly positive correlated among all of factors of father’s positive position to himself and others, and fathering practices. Also, there were significantly negative correlated among factors of father’s negative position to himself and others, and fathering practices.
