This study is a descriptive survey study to identify smoking related characteristics and knowledge of Chinese students in Korea. The study was performed on 208 Chinese students in a university in Chungcheongbuk-do from October 1 in 2011 to January 31 in 2012. A structured survey questionnaire was used to identify the characteristics and knowledge of the subjects on smoking and the results are as follows.
The ratio of smokers among Chinese students in Korea was 92.8%, and their knowledge on smoking was 14.88 out of 20. As the smoking ratio was higher and the knowledge level was lower than Korean university students, it is needed to develop a program to enhance their knowledge on smoking in order to help their 'No Smoking.' Additionally, as the biggest reason why they smoke was found to be 'To quench stress', stress management should be performed together. As those who were younger than 20, had religion, were language students, had lower smoking related education requirements, had higher amount of smoking, longer period of smoking and had smoker friends had lower level of knowledge, we need to give them enforced smoking-related education.
